Today's Encyclopedia of Gematria entry log involves the theme of trickery and its symbolism.

The Greek "messenger of the gods," is most famous for his caduceus and winged helmet and boots. he was also known as the god of commerce, trickery and writing. For those traits he was the patron god of  money-lenders, merchants, thieves, actors, and sorcerers. In the occult, Hermes is identified as Hermes "Thrice Great" or Hermes Trismegistus because of his supposed authorship of 20,000 or more books. Here is an excerpt from Manly P. Hall's Secret Teachings of All Ages,

"Hermes was the same as the Egyptian Thoth; and from the invention of letters being attributed to him...."

Language in English Ordinal = 68 (12+1+14+7+21+1+7+5
Language in English Reduction = 32 (3+1+5+7+3+1+7+5) [The gematria of language is my interpolation]

Thoth holds forth the Egyptian version
of the caduceus of Hermes
"Investigators believe that it was Hermes who was known to the Jews as Enoch. Hermes was accepted into the mythology of the Greeks, later becoming... Mercury of the Latins. He was revered through the form of the planet Mercury because this body is nearest to the sun...

In the Egyptian drawings of him, Thoth carries a waxen writing tablet and serves as the recorder during
the weighing of the souls of the dead in the judgment Hall of Osiris--a ritual of great significance.
Hermes is of first importance to Masonic scholars, because he was the author of the Masonic initiatory rituals, which were borrowed from the Mysteries established by Hermes. Nearly all of the Masonic symbols are Hermetic in character.

Hermes is also revered for his reformation of the calendar system. He increased the year from 360 to 365 days, thus establishing a precedent which still prevails. The appellation "Thrice Greatest" was given to Hermes because he was considered the greatest of all philosophers, the greatest of all priests, and the greatest of all kings."

Mercury in English Ordinal = 103 (13+5+18+3+21+18+25)
Mercury in English Reduction = 40 (4+5+9+3+3+9+7)
Mercury was the Roman counterpart of Hermes. His reputation as a trickster-god is reflected in mythology. The theft of Apollo's cattle and his lyre are two of the most famous examples.

From Reddit: "Despite the fact that Hermes and Mercury create the lyre in different ways, they both become known for their trickster tendencies (especially in the Iliad). The same associations that make them deities of commerce, trade, and wit also make them the deities of choice for thieves and any who might aim to deceive." [my emphasis]

Sorcery in English Ordinal = 103 (19+15+18+3+5+18+25)
Sorcery in English Reduction = 40 (1+6+9+3+5+9+7)
